Hi Reader, So here we are — first proper newsletter back, and I'm already breaking my own rules by writing this the day before posting with an emptied cappuccino. Some things never change. But here's what has changed: I'm finally practicing what I've been preaching. 🤖 Automation Wizard (Coming Soon)I've spent the last few weeks setting up my automation consultancy properly. Not just the business side, but actually using every tool I recommend to clients. I'll be really leaning into an automation tools called n8n. No longer a slow on hold side hustle this is going to have to be my main thing. It's one thing to tell someone "you should automate your email workflows" and another to have 47 different automations running your own life. I'm currently testing workflows and AI tools to organise my tasks, sort through my email and even set up and maintain these projects I'm bootstrapping. This is leading to something bigger: Automation Wizard — a new Substack newsletter launching in the next few weeks or less (and underwhelming website is already back up and taking queries for my services at AutomationWizard.com). Think of it as the tactical, hands-on cousin to Incantations. Where this newsletter is the thinking-out-loud space, Automation Wizard will be the "here's exactly how to build it" space and directly related to my consultancy offerings and products related to automation and AI. I've got other projects both related and not to follow on from this, but this is the first one and most tightly related to what should be my main "job" income. The Meta GameThere's something funnily recursive about using AI to write content and structure and run my products and services for AI automation. I'm not trying to replace the human bits (the weird observations, the late-night "what if" thoughts, the occasional existential crisis about whether my email bot is more organized than I am, it will be!), but I am letting the machines handle the mundane stuff. If I'm going to help other people reclaim their time through automation, I better be living it myself. What's NextMore experiments. More behind-the-scenes. More "I tried this weird thing and here's what happened." And soon, a proper playground where we can build these automations together. Until the next incantation, Andrew P.S. a quick reminder if you missed last week's email... 💌 Not your thing anymore? That’s totally fine. Automation Wizard/Soloneer - Exploring how we can use the latest technologies such as AI, automation tools like n8n, and 3D printing to make our lives easier and better.
Last week, I thought I was running out of space on my NAS (Network Attached Storage, basically my central storage of hard drives at home). The warning lights were flashing, the drives looked full, and my brain immediately shifted into problem-solving mode. I started mapping out backup tiers, sync rules, and cleanup scripts. I even looked at buying another 16TB drive I didn’t really need. After an hour of overthinking and mapping, I noticed something ridiculous. Both recycle bins—local and...
There’s a special kind of panic that comes when you realize you might have just broken something that really matters. Mine started with one small file — a cryptographic key used to publish a client’s Android apps on the Play Store. We were hours away from handing everything back after years of collaboration with a major client. The transition needed to be clean and professional. And then I couldn’t find the key. See, a few years earlier I had made what I thought was the responsible choice: I...
Most people think the magic of AI is in the answers. But the real magic? It’s in the questions — and how you write them. Because let’s be honest. Asking AI for something then getting a sloppy answer really kills the mood. Makes a person think it’s not worth the hype. But who has time to research and learn “effective prompting” from the army of AI bros on social media? Not me. So here’s the shortcut almost nobody talks about: You can use AI to help you talk to AI. I know, it sounds a bit like...
